In partnering with Zippo, one of the world’s most iconic brands, my team was asked to develop a brand new line of exciting lifestyle products across new business segments.
Zippo explored many segments such as durable outdoor home products, multi-tools, camping equipment, wallets, even consumer electronics. But with such an iconic American brand, the most natural extension for Zippo was to live in the pocket of its customer.
Zippo didn’t have to be the first to any particular category. The goal was to successfully translate the Zippo brand across different product segments without being a private label product. It had to be unique enough to stand out in a crowded market.
So how do you make a wallet that can endure the test of time? Make it out of metal. This design offers Zippo a platform on which they can endlessly decorate. Metal also offers additional protection against identity theft by blocking RFID scanners.
